I used Mental Imagery, which is; shutting your eyes or looking at something and think about what YOU look like, doing your particular skill.
Before I did this, I never really thought about what looked liked doing this skill, now I'm trying to see what I look like, what I should be doing and what I should and shouldn't be doing. My effectiveness during this practice I believe was quite effective as I stayed on task very easy and when I did end up going out of my "daydream" I got out of that very quickly and thought to my self again what I can do better . I used this method of practice today because I hurt my back a little last night, and when I woke up this morning it was really sore. So I thought I would rest my back and also it would have been good to see how I look like doing the skill. Next time I think I may take a video of me doing my skill 3 times, and watch the video over and over again then watch a pro video and compare mine to theirs, then do the mental imagery started so I know already what I look like and what I need to do instead.
Hi Emma, thanks for sharing your reflection. This sounds like a fantastic strategy to help you become more confident at something and I believe that many athletes use this technique. Next time it would be interesting if you told me what sort of skill you were practising using this strategy as it would help me to understand the sorts of things I could try this for.
