Canterbury Athletics

Yesterday on the 24.11.16 I found out that I got into Canterbury Athletics. Which is a massive goal of mine.  When I found out I wad so so happy, my first ever time going Canterbury for Athletics. It is a massive success. I'mm glad I got into it, also since they only picked the top 2 from the West Coast.

I got into for 3 events which is better than going all the way for 1 event.
The events I got into are....
* High jump - I jumped 1.25m which is up to the bottom of my neck
* Long jump - I jumped 3.51 which is more than double my height
* 100m Sprints - I'm not sure how quick I was.

I'm very happy with my achivement. Can't wait till the 7th next week on Wednesday to compete.

Tramping!

Mikonui Flats hut

I woke up, full of excitement and adventure. My dad came and dropped me off at school - I was quite sad when he had to leave.
We hopped into our cars and drove off, on our adventure we drove around about 1.30mins to get to out walking destination.

I was sitting in a back of a car and started not to feel so good. My breathing started to go weird, I got all dizzy. Then I had a panic attack. It was horrible. After my panic attack had finished, we started to walk. We made it to the lunch spot  dug out my lunch and ate. I was so hungry! We carried on walking and done out first river crossing. It was cold!

When we got to the hut we put up our tents and went for a swim, we jumped off the rock and had a swim. THE WATER WAS COLD, and a very pretty blue.

For the rest of the night, we came up got warm had tea sat near the fire and, THEN! we had to go out in the dark by our selfs for 20mins, and OH was I scared.  I was weary kept looking up scanning the area. That is not my cuppa tea.

After out 20 minutes in the dark alone we all came back and went to bed. It took us awhile to get to sleep. I had a bad sleep against the side of the tent all night wet.
We all woke up and were talking for 5 minutes and then we heard pot and pans banging to wake everybody up.

As Mr S-W came near our tent we were all like "were awake were awake" .  we got up packed had pancakes for breakfast and cleaned up and went.  The walk back felt like it took longer and was harder as we crossed a deep river and took a slight route. My bag felt heavier since I had wet clothes in it.

Overall my experience was great, and I had a great time.

The Shaking.

Wow, this week has been full of adventure and fun. On Monday early morning Kaikoura and Seddon had a really big earthquakes. The biggest one being 7.8 - which is massive.

I was lying in bed asleep, when the 7.8 earth quake struck. WOW! I was scared, since that was my first time being in a earth quake. I didn't go to school on money because if the earth quakes and because I was sick.

Here are some photos of the damage.

Mad Lib Theatre

Mad lib Theatre

On Wednesday and Thursday, we did, Mad Lib theatre.
Our inspiration for mad lib theatre is Jimmy Fallon. Here is a video for you to watch to get what I'm talking about.  Click this link

So basically, you get a movie scene script and  take some words out and replace them with e.g verbs examination etc. then you place them into the script.  This is my plan Çlick this link

Then, this is my version Click this link

Hope you enjoy!

My Debating Journey

This week on Thursday, we had our 6th class debate. For me, debating is a thing that I find quite difficult. But then again debating has given me a lot of confidence. Compared to what I was like at the start of the year to now is a big difference! To speak up and be passionate, even if I don't believe in the side I am on, I still have to fight for the team I am on.

Debating has taught me a lot, such as the following.

* Evaluate websites.

* Argue a point of view.
* Check if websites are scholarly.
* Paraphrase someone else’s research.
* Summarise key points from difficult texts.
* Take notes.

It was a great debate and, everybody went well!
Can't wait till the next debate!!!

Basketball Season

This year I tried basketball. It's the first year I have played and I really enjoyed it. I'm definitely going to play next year. I have learnt a lot. We had a game last night  in the new Westland Recreation Center against Cobden, my team and I played very well.
Luke got a 3 pointer and a basket in the last second of the game. Which was really well done.
We won 51 - 6. After our game we had a presentation, I was the only one out of my team who got a certificate for playing well all season, I got to shake Sam Debsters hand, he is from the nelson giants. and he got selected for New Zealand.

The Performing Arts

The performing arts is something that I enjoy, but I'm not that confident in myself I get embarrassed easily when I do something like this but this term is about getting embarrassed getting put out of our comfort zone, and I'm going try, to do my best don't hold back just let it all out.

I am excited about this term and will put 110% into everything. If we wanted a lead role we had to audition. I went for the hunchback man in the time warp . On Monday we found out if we got the part and I GOT IT I was so excited but humble.

So congratlations to everyone that got the lead roles and all so nice try  to everyone that went for it.

The Element

The Element is a time to let loose do what we want to do. The Element is when we get to choose something to do anything at school and do it for and hour. Some people have chosen stuff like art, basketball  etc . I have chosen Baking, This week I have made Chocolate caramel muffins. (Out of a box)

Everybody was like Emma why are you making muffins out of a box. I said "YOLO".

If you have a request of what I could bake leave a comment down below. :)

Auditions

This term we have being doing drama, we are doing 5 mini productions. Yesterday if we wanted a lead role we had to do an audition. I went for anything I could.  So I went for, Tania off Mamma Mia, Sophie off Mamma Mia, Danny of Grease, Witch off Rocky Horror and the Creepy man off Rocky Horror.

It was a great experience for me. I'm not usually an outgoing confident person when it comes to acting/ singing/ dancing etc. But I had to get put out of my comfort zone and pretend nobody was there. So I did. One of my friends said that I look confident. I told her that I'm not I'm dying inside but I gotta keep on going.

Good Luck to everybody who auditioned. I hope that I got a place in the Drama production if I don't it won't be a big deal I will just have to be a backup dancer etc.

French

This year we have been doing french. It has been really fun. This week we have done french speaking countries and we had to make a poster, and this is mine!

Monday 25 July 2016

I can't believe it only 2 terms left of primary school. Less than 100 days, WOW! I can't believe that I have been at Paroa school for nearly 8 years. If feels like yesterday when I arrived here at Paroa School in room one.

Now that we are in term 3 I have realised how fast the years go and how much I need to put my head down and do more work than the usual. Not that I don't do work, I just need to focus more and work hard. This term I have many goals to complete so that I have a good knowledge for the big highschool. High School everyone talks about it how great it is. I know it will be great, but I will try not to go in there nervous.

Goals

1.  To put my head down do maths make BTB, DLO's

2. Get along with all my classmates and let this be the best last half of the year I could have.

3. Take risks and don't be scared to get put outside my comfit zone

4. Try my best and put 110% into everything

5. To do more home learning, for the last 2 terms I have been slack on home learning (if you don't know what home learning is it basically explains itself)  So for the last 2 terms left I am going to try to do more home learning. In maths and speech writing

6.  Don't be scared to ask for help

7. HAVE FUN

Rafting Reflection

Wednesday 22nd June on of the best experiences yet. The class gets split up into two groups one group goes rafting the other goes sea kayaking. I go rafting

I wake up I am excited but nervous, I can't wait till we get on the river I cannot stop thinking.
I learnt a lot on this trip from how to hold a paddle to what an eddy is.

I had a great time full of fun and laughter together

It was a great experience and I am glad I have got to done it.

I usually get homesick but this time, I didn't that was really good for a change.

The weather was okay it was spitting the whole time

Thanks to our great leaders from that tai pounamu polytech, Lachie, Toby, Simon, Ryan, and Reefton. Also a big thank to the school for letting us go on this trip and also other big thanks to Mr. Mcaualy for coming on the trip with us.

Rock Climbing and Abseiling Reflection

On Friday was one of the most life changing and best experience  in the world. So on Friday the 17th of June 2016, I woke up all excited and not very nervous. I was running around the house like a headless chicken because I was so excited.

Just as I hopped out of the car just as the bell rang, I could see all of my classmates running back to class. We all sat on the mat while my teacher Mr. S-W had a talk to us about today, he did the roll as he called out our names.

Soon after that the tai poutini polytechnic students came to talk about the day introduce themselves then, they asked the Friday rock climbing group to come out so we did while the other half of the class set off to work. We were outside talking about all different kind of things like safety after we have talked about the serious stuff we went into a circle and said our name something we liked have we did abseil before and a funny animal noise. I said my names Emma I like sports yes I have been abseiling before at bridge valley and my funny animal noise was a donkey "eeehh oorrr"

Then Hazel one of our instructors said to us we will go now hop into your cars and let's go. When she said that the nerves started to kick in.
We finally got to Charleston after a 1 hours drive, by then I started to feel sick. I hoped out of the car and headed over to the rest of the group. We started to put our harnesses on and our helmets had a quick bite to eat then started walking to where we were going to have a climb and an abseil . My teacher could tell I was getting nervous so he said to me that I need to stop thinking about it, so I tried but I couldn't. He started talking to me about stuff so I could stop thinking about it.

We got there, they had a little explaining to do for us the boundaries and the rules. We had to get into 1 group of 4 and another of 5 there was a girl group and a boy group my group went first. Alyssa and Reed really both wanted to go first so they did the Chili version of paper scissors rock. Reed won so she went first then it was Alyssa, Hannah and me both wanted to go third because we wanted to get it over and done with. By this point the nerves really had kicked in I was my teacher had to keep telling me that I can do I with out my teacher and the girls support I might not of been able to do it.

I was standing in then edge if the cliff with a instructor called Lochie that belays us down mr s-w cliped onto the saftey rope with the camera and the girls giving me incourgement I took the step and at that point I knew that I couldn't turn back the only say to get out of this was to keep going down after the first couple minutes of the slowleyness I started to fly I really wanted to do it again. Next time I will know that I need to trust myself and the ropes. At the bottom there was anither instrutor called Josh who helped us undo the knots and giving us more incourage ment. When you got down it was the best feeling hhe made you feel amazing giving you highfives saying how well you went. to get back to the top we had to go throught this cafe it was very sliperly in there but I got up okay.

Now it was the boys turn the girls and I had something quick to eat then went to our rock climbing. I sarted on the easy one then I  went ont he hard one called the chimney. Some parts I told my Instructor Lockie that I wanted down he said I can do It and was helping a little with where I could put my hands and feet. I finally reached the top it was the best feeling. I thank Lockie so much because wiht our his help I wouldn't of made it to the top.

Going rock climbing and abesailsing was the best feeling I loved doing I and I would go and do it again.
I would like to thank Paroa school for Elemet and also big thanks to Lockie, Hazel, Josh, Hojoe (The Tai Poutini Polytechnic) for organising such a great event.

One of my favorite parts of doing abesailing was when I was standing on the edge of the cliff and thinking to my self I can't do this and I done it. I had a great time, I hope everyone else did too.

Reflection 2 W5T2

Debating

Debating is a weekly thing now in our class. I am glad we are doing debating because it will boost my confidence because I have a cleft palate

This week I have felt a change in myself in my confidence and learning.
I feel I am more engaged in my learning because of the debates. Why I feel  I am more engaged in my learning is because I don't want to let my team down.

The gorilla should of been killed

Yesterday in the UK a gorilla was shot dead after the 4-year-old boy fell into a gorilla enclosure.

Today in class we have done a debate on the gorilla being shot. I believe the gorilla should have got shot why because yes the gorilla might of not hurt the child but then again he might of, would you take that chance of your child being killed by a gorilla. They had to kill a dangerous animal at that time. The Gorilla was a danger the boy
"The boy was getting dragged around and his head was banging on the concrete it was not a gentle thing, " The owner of the zoo said this morning at 7:35 in the morning

Here are some videos for you to watch

Comment below, what you think of the gorilla? Do you tink it should have got shot?

Now the gorilla is shot and the child has the rest of its life to live.

If you had a 4-year-old brother or sister and they fell into the gorilla enclosure what would you do risk their life or shoot the gorilla and save them? It would take 1 second of the wrong moment for the gorilla to kill him. So if I was in the situation I would shoot the gorilla 100% no child's life is worth risking for a gorilla.

Relefection 1 W4T2

This week has gone fast, we have started planning for our debate on has New Zealand's education system broken! Leave a comment below what you think of your school's education system. Has it worked for you?

For the last week or so, we have been doing letters for the editors in the paper. Mine is about the public toilets need to be clean more often/better. Are your public toilets clean?

We had West Coast cross country this week I got into it, but I decided not to go .

I had speech therapy this week too with my teacher's wife. I am glad that I go to every week and I feel that it is bringing my confidence up.

I have just finished reading an amazing book called Bitter Sweet by Winnie Mack. I will not give too much away but it is about a 12-year-old girl called Samantha and she loves soccer and warm brownies, and something terrible happens. I would highly recommend this book to everyone who likes a little mystery.

Our Fitness, The Run

4 days a week our class does the run 2.6 kilometers. It was spitting today and our teacher said run as far as you can. But basically our whole class apart from 3 people done the half run those 3 people ran the full run to 4 jays and back (2.6 k). Sadly I wasn't part of that group. I was running along nearly at half way then I saw people turn around, I asked them

"Are we allowed to turn around here"

"Yip" they all replied and kept on running

So I didn't think and I turned around. On the way back I was thinking mabey I should have turned back around and do the full run. But no I didn't I kept on running. I was just lazy I could have gone a lot further. There are lots of people in the world that don't have what I have. It is only 2.6 k I could of at least done that If I could bring back time I would do the whole run no doubt about that.

I fell sorry for my teacher as he thought that we would all do the whole run and get our fitness level up but we didn't we turned around at half way.

I can't believe our class copped out of a 2.6 k run. From now on I will choose to do the full run even if I want to do the half even if the whole class is doing half run I will do the full run.
